Security Systems & Electrician Maroubra

Protecting Maroubra Families

A southerly blows in off Maroubra Beach. The lights flicker, the TV cuts out and your phone pings with motion at the side gate. Two problems at once: one electrical, one security. Most people would need two different trades for that. You only need us.

CGF Security & Electrical is a licensed team of electricians who also specialise in security. We look after the wiring, the switchboard and the security systems in Maroubra homes and businesses, from the beachfront down to South Maroubra and up to the Junction. One call covers all of it.

Beachside living is great for you and hard on your electrics. Salt air corrodes outdoor fittings, power points and camera housings faster than in suburbs further inland. Coastal thunderstorms send voltage spikes down the lines that can kill a fridge, a TV or a gaming PC in a split second.

So every Maroubra job starts with the environment in mind. We use sealed, weather rated outdoor fittings, corrosion resistant camera mounts and surge protection that actually protects.

Whole Home Surge Protection

A surge protector fitted at your switchboard is your first line of defence. It diverts excess voltage before it reaches anything plugged in. A lightning strike doesn’t need to hit your house to cause damage. A strike on nearby lines is enough. Whole home protection costs a fraction of replacing appliances after one bad storm.

CCTV Cameras

Package theft and car break ins are usually what gets people calling. Then they realise how much they use their cameras every day: checking the kids got home, seeing who’s at the gate, keeping an eye on bikes, boards and tools down the side of the house.

Our CCTV installations are positioned to capture faces and number plates clearly, not blurry movement. They’re built for coastal weather, from summer heat to winter downpours and you can view them from your phone whether you’re grabbing a coffee or away for a week.

Alarm Systems

Our alarm systems send an instant alert when a door opens unexpectedly or there’s motion where there shouldn’t be. We set each one up around your household. That means pet friendly sensitivity so the dog doesn’t set it off, zones that let you leave certain windows open for the sea breeze and schedules for teenagers coming and going at odd hours.

Video Intercoms

See and speak to visitors before opening the door, or let the tradie in from your desk at work. For Maroubra apartment blocks, we replace audio only buzzers with video intercoms that residents answer from their phones, with a record of who’s been buzzed in.

Maroubra’s business community covers Pacific Square, cafés along Marine Parade, gyms, clinics and light industrial sites nearby. We handle both the commercial electrical and the security, so you get one contractor, one quote and no gaps between trades.

  • Retail around Pacific Square and the Junction:cameras over entries, registers, fitting room entrances and stockrooms that capture faces and product detail clearly, with footage stored for weeks.
  • Cafés and restaurants:CCTV on service areas, kitchens and storage, plus after hours alarms. On the electrical side, we handle fit outs, commercial lighting, three phase power and equipment connections.
  • Gyms, clinics and allied health:access control so each staff member’s credential only works during their shifts, with restricted access to medication, patient records and equipment rooms and logs that help with insurance and compliance.
  • Salons and beauty clinics:access control is ideal for rental chair setups where several practitioners keep different hours. It’s cleaner than handing out keys and you always know who’s inside.
  • Warehouses and light industrial:perimeter and loading dock cameras that capture vehicles and faces, internal coverage of stock and footage that settles delivery disputes and damage claims.
  • Childcare centres:secure entry that logs every adult in and out, intercom screening at the door and CCTV over play areas. It’s designed to stay practical during the drop off rush.
  • Strata buildings:intercom upgrades, common area access control and CCTV over car parks and lobbies, plus all the documentation your committee needs for approvals and insurance.
  • Compliance work:emergency lighting and exit signs, safety inspections, data cabling and regular maintenance programs, scheduled outside trading hours.

Switchboard Upgrades

If your home is more than 20 years old and the switchboard still has ceramic fuses, or it trips when the air con and oven run together, it’s past its use by date. A modern board gives you:

  • RCD safety switches on all required circuits, cutting power in milliseconds
  • Circuit breakers instead of fuses
  • Capacity for air con, EV chargers and modern kitchens
  • Proper labelling, so you know which switch does what
  • Built in surge protection

EV Chargers and Battery Storage

Trickle charging from a standard power point is slow. A dedicated wall charger is faster, safer and built for the job. We install chargers for Tesla, MG, BYD and every other major brand, pick the best spot, handle all the electrical work and provide a compliance certificate.

Already have solar? Maroubra gets plenty of sun. A battery system stores your daytime generation for the evening peak instead of exporting it for a few cents.

Renovations, New Builds and Everyday Jobs

Badly placed power points and weak lighting can bug you for years. Our residential electricians get involved early with your builder or architect. We plan your electrical layout, lighting design, smart home integration and RCD protection and handle rewiring for major renovations.

We also do the small stuff properly: extra power points, dead light switches, LED downlight upgrades, ceiling fans, garden lighting, appliance connections and electrical safety checks.

Smoke Alarm Compliance

NSW law requires smoke alarms on every level, positioned correctly near bedrooms and hallways and meeting AS 3786. Some homes also need hardwired, interconnected alarms. We inspect your current setup, install hardwired, interconnected smoke alarms where needed, test everything and hand over a compliance certificate. That’s handy for sales and rentals.

Total power loss, sparking outlets, a burning smell from the switchboard, exposed wiring, a shock from an appliance, or storm damage? Call us straight away. We make it safe, find the cause and get you running again. For everything that can wait, our maintenance and repairs team handles fault finding and routine checks.

  • Electricians first, so your security is wired safely and to code, not just bolted on.
  • Coastal know how: we choose materials and protection for salt air and storms.
  • Upfront quoteswith no hidden fees.
  • Clean installs: neat cable runs, precise camera angles and systems configured right on day one.
  • Real handover: we explain everything in plain English and stay on call afterwards.

We cover Maroubra, South Maroubra, Maroubra Junction, Malabar, Matraville, Pagewood, Kingsford, Eastgardens, Hillsdale, Chifley, Little Bay, La Perouse, Coogee, Randwick and the rest of our Sydney service areas.

FAQs: Maroubra Electrical and Security

Usually your safety switch or a circuit breaker has tripped, often from a surge or water getting into an outdoor fitting. Check your switchboard and try resetting it. If it won’t stay on, don’t keep forcing it. There’s a fault on that circuit and it needs an electrician.

Power boards only protect what’s plugged into them. Your oven, air con, hot water system, pool pump and EV charger are hardwired and fully exposed. A surge diverter at the switchboard protects every circuit in the house and works best with your power boards as a second layer.

Almost certainly. Cheap cameras aren’t sealed for coastal air, so moisture and salt get inside the housing and corrode the bracket. Swapping to a weather rated camera with corrosion resistant mounts and sealed cable entry usually fixes it for good.

Capturing the street as part of covering your own property is generally fine. Deliberately recording into a neighbour’s private yard or windows is asking for trouble and recording private conversations with audio can breach NSW surveillance laws. We angle cameras to cover your property, not theirs.

Yes. Under the NSW Workplace Surveillance Act, employees must get written notice at least 14 days before workplace camera surveillance starts and cameras must be clearly visible with signs at entrances. We position cameras and signs so you stay compliant.

Anything that touches common property, like car park wiring, external walls or the building’s supply, usually needs strata approval. We prepare the technical details and load assessment your committee needs, which makes approval much faster.

Yes. NSW landlords must have working smoke alarms on every level, check them at least once a year and replace batteries and expired alarms. We install compliant alarms and provide a certificate for your records.

No. It usually means that circuit is overloaded, an appliance is faulty, or an old switchboard can’t handle modern loads. Test each appliance on its own. If the tripping continues, get the board checked, because it may need an upgrade.

Yes. LEDs use a fraction of the power of halogens, run much cooler and last for years. If you’re renovating or replacing a few blown globes anyway, upgrading the whole house at once is the most cost effective approach.

Your cameras keep recording to the local recorder, so nothing is lost. You just can’t view them remotely until the internet is back. For alarms, ask us about a backup communication option so alerts still get through during an outage.

Yes. We install recorders with spare channels so you can add cameras, intercoms or alarm zones later without starting over.

Some insurers offer discounts for monitored alarms and professionally installed CCTV and some require them for high value contents. Check with your insurer and we’ll provide installation documentation if they ask for it.
